Product details
Antivirus for Linux servers, file servers and dual-boot machines, with a real-time file scanner.
Description
Linux servers are considered hard to attack, and that is partly true: fewer attacks target the kernel directly. The easier route runs alongside it. A file server where staff exchange documents passes an infected file on to every Windows machine on the network, without anything looking wrong on the server. The same applies to dual-boot machines.
Avast Business Antivirus for Linux watches that route. File server protection is a real-time scanner that checks files as they are written to monitored mount points, using Fanotify-based "on write" protection for Samba and NFS. CommunityIQ adds real-time malware protection with multicore support, which reduces the processing load on workstations and uses less power.
Scan output is built for server work: every detected malicious file gets its own line, clean files tagged "[OK]", unreadable files or damaged archives "[ERROR]", files excluded with -e "[EXCLUDED]".
Virus definitions keep themselves current: a shell script checks for new VPS and runs as a cron job every five hours by default. With the scan service enabled, streaming updates from the Avast cloud are added on top.
